Dr. Mohamed Soliman Ahmed Elfar is a fellowship-trained, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at New York Breast Surgery Center. His clinical work centers on breast surgery, reconstructive procedures and complex surgical cases. He earned three board certifications, where most plastic surgeons have one. Each is independently verified and actively maintained. They include:
“Board certification is not a box you check once and then forget about it,” says Dr. Elfar. “It’s something you have to earn and maintain. Every patient I treat deserves that standard of accountability.”
Dr. Elfar works alongside Dr. David Shokrian, serving patients at two locations. Both surgeons are available for your consultation in either Midtown Manhattan or Great Neck, Long Island.
Dr. Elfar earned his MD from the Faculty of Medicine at Suez Canal University in Egypt in 1991. He then completed a Master’s degree in surgery at the same institution in 1997. In 2000, he passed the United States Medical Licensing Exam. His path to New York ran through five countries and some of the most demanding surgical programs in the world. His residency and fellowship stops include:
Reaching Chief Resident at two separate programs, in two separate surgical disciplines isn’t routine. Programs reserve that title for their top-performing residents. Dr. Elfar earned it twice.
Dr. Elfar’s held senior leadership positions across major academic medical institutions, such as:
“My years leading the Clark Burn Center taught me that you never stop learning,” says Dr. Elfar. “The most complex cases push you to be better. I carry that into every breast surgery I perform today.”
Dr. Elfar’s board certification in Surgical Critical Care goes beyond what most plastic surgeons hold. He understands complications and emergencies at a higher level than what standard surgical training covers. His burn surgery background adds another layer of precision under pressure.
Most procedures take place inside the JCAHO-accredited surgical suite andanesthesia safety facility in Bryant Park. Infection control, anesthesia oversight and patient care protocols are all independently reviewed during your procedure. Sometimes, Dr. Elfar uses a nearby hospital operating room, for which he has permissions.
On technique, Dr. Elfar applies advanced implant placement methods, including dual-plane and sub-muscular positioning. For incisions, he selects the least visible approach for your anatomy. Options include peri-areolar, inframammary and transaxillary techniques.
In reconstruction surgeries, he uses flap techniques, such as TRAM and latissimus dorsi flaps. His fat transfer work combines precise liposuction harvesting with structured fat injection. He’s been praised for his work.

Dr. Elfar’s peer-reviewed publications in medical journals stand as a formal validation of his clinical expertise. Getting published in peer-reviewed journals requires independent expert review. His work has passed that standard multiple times.
His appointment to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Surgery reflects peer recognition at a different level. Editorial board members are chosen by the field they practice. This is a role you can’t apply for; your peers select you.
The ABLS National Faculty designation adds yet another layer to his expertise. Only surgeons who demonstrate the highest standard in burn life support training earn that appointment. Dr. Elfar holds it and serves as a Course Director, training other surgeons across the country.
He’s also a nominee for the Doctors Choice Awards platform. This is a peer recognition network within plastic surgery, where fellow medical professionals evaluate and endorse surgical colleagues. The criteria are based on clinical performance and patient outcomes.
